Looking for a couple’s devotional that truly helps you and your spouse grow together in faith?
A good Christian couple’s devotional does more than give you something to read together.
It creates space for honest conversations, shared prayer, and a deeper walk with Jesus.
These devotional books for couples help build intimacy, improve communication, and keep Christ right at the center of your marriage.
We’ve selected options for each stage of your relationship, whether you’re dating, engaged, newly married, or have many anniversaries to your name.
Many couples tell us they want a devotional that feels practical instead of overwhelming.
That’s why I’ve made sure to include both daily options and weekly studies.
-
“Night Light” by James & Shirley Dobson has short, consistent entries that make it easy for even the busiest days. It’s a reader favorite.
-
"Couples Bible Study Activities" by LaJena James is a fun devotional for outgoing or adventurous couples who want ideas for getting out of their comfort zone.
Especially if you enjoy trying new things or activities! It will set a great tone for your next date night!
-
"#Staymarried: A Couples Devotional" by Michelle Peterson only asks for 30-minutes every week, making it ideal for couples who struggle to maintain a daily devotional habit but still want to grow together.
-
“Devotions for a Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas is the best option for couples who want to grow deeper in faith.
It's written by a theologian who views marriage as away to grow more "holy" and will foster "happy" as a result.

How to start a couples devotional habit
I want to encourage you to find a rhythm that works with your life.
Right now, we’re doing a devotional a few times a week, but sometimes it’s only been weekly.
By holding loosely to our expectations, we’ve managed to maintain a regular devotional time as a married couple, even if it’s not consistent.
My husband and I have struggled with finding and maintaining a devotional habit together, so if this is you, then you’re in good company!
Here are a few things that have helped:
Select the right devotional for this season. Maybe a daily devotional work for your schedule, or maybe all you can manage is weekly.
Being realistic about your schedule is one (but not the only) factor to consider when selecting a devotional book.
Discussing who will initiate. I’m the natural “let’s do this!” person in our relationship.
Once I realized that my husband appreciated me (and actively wants me to) remind us to do a devotional, it stopped feeling like nagging.
Set an alarm. I didn’t want to forget, nor did I want the responsibility of remembering.
So I set a daily alarm on our phones with a different ring sound than other alarms. This has improved our frequency by at least 50%.
Be flexible. At first, I wanted to do a couple’s devotional every day.
But that’s just not realistic.
Once I lowered my expectations and we assessed each other’s energy levels, we have been able to maintain a regular habit.
It was hard to start, but now that we’re in the rhythm of having devotional time together.
It feels like a natural part of our life that ebbs and flows like many other areas.

Top couples devotional books to enrich your marriage
The couple's devotionals on this list have been personally researched by me.
I’ve only selected highly recommended and reviewed devotional books that are specifically designed for couples.
First, I want to acknowledge that any devotional you read and pray through together will draw you closer to God and each other. It doesn’t have to be specifically a couple’s devotional.
However, there are seasons when I crave a devotional book with a more specific focus. Which is why I wrote this article!
My hope is that you’ll find the right devotional for your relationship.
If you’re looking for more options, I’ve also curated recommendations for dating couples and devotionals for married couples.

4. ‘#Staymarried: A Couples Devotional’
The #StayMarried devotional has been popular among our readers, and for good reason. It’s written for our modern, time-crunched society (only a weekly, 30-minute commitment is required).
It seamlessly blends Scripture with relationship research and practical tools.
I know firsthand how difficult it can be to set aside time for a personal devotional, let alone coordinating one with your partner or spouse.
If you want a devotional that seems “doable” and also leads to meaningful conversations, this is a great option for you!
Best for: Seriously dating, engaged, or married couples who want a modern take on a devotional that will build their relationship through Scripture and the latest research that backs it up.
About the author: Michelle Peterson is a writer, speaker, and podcaster who started tweeting with the hashtag #staymarried.
Soon her ministry grew into a popular blog and podcast. Her husband joined, and they’ve been encouraging and sharing their story, Biblical insight, and relationship research ever since.

5. ‘Night Light’
“Night Light” remains a favorite daily couples devotional because it is short, encouraging, and focused on building a Christ-centered home.
James and Shirley Dobson offer practical steps, Scripture, and gentle reminders to keep the spark of faith and love alive.
Best for: Couples looking for a consistent, uplifting daily connection.
About the authors: James Dobson founded Focus on the Family and has spent decades encouraging families to follow biblical principles.
Shirley Dobson has coauthored several books with her husband and led the National Day of Prayer Task Force.

6. ‘Couples Bible Study Activities’
If you’re looking for a devotional with activities (especially if you’re both extroverts!) you’ll enjoy this book.
It includes activity suggestions to do with your partner or spouse. Each is connected to a Bible verse, reading, and discussion questions.
Be ready to step outside your comfort zone together!
Activities include saying “I love you” in different languages, going on a guided excursion, and trying something you’ve never done before.
Some are fun and sure to make you laugh, such as acting as if you’re meeting each other again for the first time.
Best for: Couples at any stage who want to get out of their comfort zone (and out of the house) as they learn about each other and the greater community.

10. ‘Love and Respect Devotional’
Based on the bestselling “Love and Respect” message, this couple’s devotional helps husbands and wives understand each other’s deepest needs through a biblical lens.
I’ve personally benefited from this message, which author Emerson Eggerichs noticed after counseling couples.
He realized how much wives craved love and husband respect (Ephesians 5:33), which resulted in this book.
Best for: Couples seeking practical tools to strengthen communication and mutual honor.
About the author: Emerson Eggerichs is a pastor, bestselling author, and internationally known speaker who’s transformed countless marriages by reminding couples that their relational needs are different.

11. ‘New Morning Mercies’
“New Morning Mercies” is not a couples' devotional book, but I’m including it in our list because of its message. (It’s on our list of the best 365 daily devotionals.)
When read with your partner or spouse, I believe it will grow your relationship by focusing you on its Gospel message.
For example, Tripp reminds readers of God’s daily grace, serving as a reminder to share grace with our spouse, too.
Best for: Couples who want to start the day anchored in the gospel.
About the author: Paul David Tripp is a pastor, biblical counselor, and international conference speaker. I appreciate his story and how it’s informed his ministry.
After serving as a pastor to a small church, he nearly quit. But then God worked through a conversation with church leaders, who reminded Tripp that mature pastors are “grown” as God works through their weakness.

12. ‘The One Year Love Language Minute Devotional’
Gary Chapman continues his message from “The 5 Love Languages” with brief daily readings and prayer prompts into a minute-long devotion for couples.
My husband and I frequently talk about the Love Languages — it’s added a new vocabulary to our marriage.
Just today, I reminded my husband (gently, of course) that I’m “words of affirmation.”
Recognizing how important that is to me, and how much he struggles with it, has helped me better understand myself as well as how we can love each other well.
Best for: Couples who want quick, practical insights into loving each other well.
About the author: Gary Chapman is a bestselling author, speaker, counselor, and longtime pastor. He and his wife Karolyn have been married for over 60 years and have two grown children.

13. ‘The Marriage Gift: 365 Prayers for Our Marriage’

Best for: Couples who want to make prayer a natural and consistent part of their relationship.
About the authors: Aaron and Jennifer Smith are a husband-and-wife team who share their story of nearly divorcing.
When they surrendered fully to Jesus, however, their faith in Christ changed everything.
I appreciate their willingness to share their struggles so those who are in a similar struggle know they’re not alone.
