“Risen Motherhood: Gospel Hope for Everyday Moments" by Emily A. Jensen and Laura Wifler is a breath of fresh air.

It brings Gospel truth to the ordinary, and often overwhelming, moments of motherhood.

Great for moms who are navigating daily decisions and pressures, “Risen Motherhood” reminds us how Scripture speaks to the seemingly mundane choices we make.

That includes what to serve for breakfast, decisions about our children’s schooling, and how to handle tantrums.

The authors show how the Gospel impacts far more than salvation.

3. 'Jesus Calling for Moms,’ by Sarah Young

A church staffer recommended “Jesus Calling for Moms” by Sarah Young as the perfect gift for a new mom — or really, any mom — who’s feeling overwhelmed or uncertain.

“It’s soothing,” she told me, and I agreed. The “Jesus Calling” series is my go-to devotional for particularly stressful times.

Especially for new mothers who are short on sleep and need something short and affirming, there’s no better devotional.

Written in Young’s signature style, as if God is speaking directly to you, the book includes 50 devotionals that speak biblical truth over you.

She writes about the power of love, the gift of strength, and trusting God during challenging or uncertain times.

It’s a devotional any mom will turn to, again and again, as they seek God’s comfort.

Young is a former missionary and mother of two, and I personally enjoy her writing style:

She’s captured on the page what I imagine a loving and personal conversation with Christ would look like.

4. 'Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full’ by Gloria Furman

“Treasuring Christ When Your Hands Are Full” by Gloria Furman is the antidote to what can feel like the whirlwind of motherhood.

This book is full of short meditations that will help refocus your soul — bite-sized portions that are just enough to keep you focused on the God who created and sustains us.

Readers love how “Treasuring Christ” helps them focus on the Gospel and Jesus above all, even amidst the chaos of young children, sports schedules, and family life.

One mother shared how it sustained her during a particularly challenging newborn stage.

Without much sleep or time to herself, she was able to make a passage here or there — just enough to help her through “the trenches” of motherhood.

Furman is a pastor's wife and mother of four living in the Middle East.

She’s known for her theological depth in the everyday and mundane. Another book by her, “Glimpses of Grace,” is also recommended for those in a season of homemaking.

It also includes space for writing specific prayers that you can refer back to and see how God answered.

As many readers have noted, this book seems to have a prayer for all the ups and downs of motherhood.

10. ‘M Is for Mama: A Rebellion Against Mediocre Motherhood’ by Abbie Halberstadt

“M Is for Mama: A Rebellion Against Mediocre Motherhood”  by Abbie Halberstadt is a bold book for the mother who doesn’t want to settle for mediocre.

Halberstadt shares a counter-cultural approach to mothering.

It challenges motherhood myths, shares biblical encouragement, and skillfully incorporates both humor and Scriptural wisdom.

What’s most encouraging is how Halberstadt calls us to reject guilt and the drive for perfectionism, or as my husband says, trying to be “super mom.”

Instead, her book is a call to embrace God’s grace, allow yourself to delight in your imperfect children and parenting, and remember “hard” is not necessarily “bad.”

Halberstadt and a homeschooling mother of ten, including two sets of identical twins.

She lives by the motto “Hard is Not the Same as Bad,” which happens to be the title of another book she’s written that’s worth reading.
